Kress Fort Worth was constructed in 1936 amongst the many art-deco buildings that once lined Houston Street. It is one of many Kress buildings built in the United States for S.H. Kress & Co. Kress.

Originally designed as a retail department store, the Kress chain has been well known across the country for it's fine architecture with many of the buildings ranked as landmarks. Some of the other well known Kress locations include New York City's Fifth Avenue, Canal Street, and Hollywood Boulevard.

In 2006, the building was reopened for leased residency. The building was purchased again in 2008 by Nortex Realty of Wichita Falls, TX, which performed an extensive makeover on the property, making it available for live-work tenants.

The Kress continues to stand as a polished and proud jewel of Fort Worth economical and architectural history.
